Ballet Grand Prix

Ballet Grand Prix is the world's largest dance talent network that conducts annual student competitions in the United States, Europe, Asia, and South America. Talent from the international competition finals dance toe to toe with stars from the foremost ballet companies. Ballet Grand Prix finalists have joined fifty of the best ballet companies across the globe, including American Ballet Theatre, New York City Ballet, Paris Opera Ballet, Royal Ballet, Stuttgart Ballet, and many others. Past Ballet Grand Prix winners are now professionals with leading dance companies, and stars of the ballet world together perform selections from popular classical and contemporary ballets.

The world's largest student ballet scholarship competition awards over $250,000 annually in scholarships to leading dance schools worldwide. The competition is held annually around the world and is open to dance students of all nationalities 9-19 years old.  Launched in 1999 by two former dancers of the world-renowned Bolshoi Ballet, Larissa and Gennadi Saveliev, the organization is also a non-profit organization created with a mission to provide extraordinary educational and professional opportunities to young dancers, acting as a stepping stone to a professional dance career. It aims to fulfill its mission by offering educational opportunities for dance students around the world; opportunity to receive contracts to dance companies worldwide; scholarships to leading dance schools in the U.S. and abroad; invaluable professional exposure to world-renowned dance professionals; performance opportunities on some of the world's most prestigious stages and at dance fest around the world and workshops with the renowned master teachers and judges of the competition.

The competition is in its 12th Season, and has awarded over 2 million in scholarships to the leading dance schools worldwide. Over 25,000 dancers worldwide have participated in the international workshops, competitions, and audition classes. Over 200 alumni are now dancing with 50 companies around the world, including
American Ballet Theatre, New York City Ballet, Paris Opera Ballet and San Francisco Ballet, among others.

This evenings exclusive performance, created for pace, variety and excitement, features principal dancers ELISA CARILLO CABRERA and MIKHAIL KANISKIN (Berlin State Opera Ballet); DREW JACOBY, RUBINALD PRONK, MICHELLE WILES, JOSE MANUEL CARRENO, CHARLES ASKEGARD and MELANIE HAMRICK (American Ballet Theatre) and others.

Selections include visionary choreography by Annabelle Lopez Ochoa, William Forsythe, Ronald Savkovic and George Balanchine as well as classical set-piece, the Pas de Deux from "Diana and Acteon".

The finale is a specially created "Grand Defile" not before seen in Miami.
 Jose Manuel Carreno

Jose Manuel Carrreno was born in Cuba, where he received his training at the Provincial School of Ballet and the National Ballet School.  He won the Gold Medal at the New York International Ballet Competition in 1987 and the Grand Prix at the International Competition in Jackson, Mississippi in 1990. He has appeared extensively in Europe, Latin America and the United States, dancing such roles as Franz in Coppelia, Basil in Don Quixote, Albright in Giselle and Prince Siegfried in Swan Lake, and the Le Consaire, Diana and Acteon and "Black Swan" pas de deux.
 Melanie Hamrick 

Hamrick's roles with ABT include Calliope, a Shade in La Bayadere, an Odalisque in Le Corsaire, Moyna in Giselle, a Harlot in Romeo and Juliet, the Fairy of Sincerity in The Sleeping Beauty, a big swan, the pas de trois and the Spanish Dance in Swan Lake, the Prelude and Mazurka in Les Sylphides and leading roles in Dark Elegies, Everything Doesn't Happen at Once and From Here On Out.
 Charles Askegard

Born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and began his dance training at the age of five with Loyce Houlton and the Minnesota Dance Theatre.  He continued his studios at Minneaplois until the age of 16, spending one summer in the School of American Ballet (SBA), the official school of New York City Ballet, in 1983.

Mr. Askagard joined American Ballet Threatre as a member of the corps de ballet in 1987, and was promoted to soloist in 1992.  In 1997, he left ABT to join New York City Ballet as a soloist.  He was promoted to principal in 1998.
 Michele Wiles

Michele Wiles is currently a Principal Dancer with American Ballet Theatre. Michele joined American Ballet Theatre in 1998. She became a Soloist in 2000 and was promoted to Principal Dancer in 2005. She created leading roles in Concerto No. 1 for Piano and Orchestra. Within You Without You: A Tribute to George Harrison.
